Mechanical pencil sketch ~ 45 minutes

Woman with Drink

As far as sketchbook art goes, this looser style is pretty much my favorite way to draw. I don’t get as caught up with accuracy, and that allows me to play more with clothing, hair, gestures, ect. Mechanical pencil ~ 45 minutes

Daily Sketch – July 10th, 2011

Charming little fellow. ~ 70 minutes. Here’s the written description I based him off of;

  • an obese everchild
  • never grows older in appearance
  • mostly concerned with food
  • wears cloths that are much too large / long, that flow off him like regal robes
  • mouth stained
  • madness shining in his eyes: “That’s not a child…”
  • sleeps in a refuse ‘fort’

Daily Sketch – July 9th, 2011

This gentleman is a cook. Though those marks on his arm are supposed to be scars, I think I’ve stumbled across a good way to render arm-veins as well. ~ 60 minutes

Daily Sketch – July 8th, 2011

I’m transitioning my daily sketch work from random practice to actual character development for a sci fi story I’m developing. I started out by writing a brief description of the character at the top of the page in gray marker (making it barely visible here), then drew an outline of the figure in gray marker (Prismacolor 30% cool gray), THEN a rough pencil sketch, THEN the actual inks. ~ 70 minutes

Daily Sketch – June 23rd, 2011

Hah! What? That’s silly. ~ 60 minutes

Daily Sketch – June 13th, 2011

Not sure exactly what the gizmo on her right-hand does, but I like the idea of something being so useful that it can entirely replace the human hand. It’s a concept I would like to play around with more in the future. ~ 70 minutes

Daily Sketch – June 12th, 2011

Prepping final work on the gallery show I have coming up this week. It feels very good to get away and work on sketchwerks. I really like the overall feel of this one. ~ 70 minutes

Daily Sketch – June 11th, 2011

I sat down and sketched out five or six different roughs at the beginning of the week – this has been nice in that as soon as I sit down to draw I have something to work on. As most of these drawings are done before I’ve had a chance to drink my first cup of coffee in the morning It’s been a welcome change. ~ 60 minutes

Daily Sketch (pencil rough) – May 31st, 2011 / June 2nd (finished Inking)

I had a false start with this one and so this is all I got done this morning.  I’ll display the completed image next to it when it’s inked. ~ 40 minutes

June 2nd update: Finished the inking. I would like another crack on the lower-half of the body.

Daily Sketch – May 13th, 2011

Hah I’m kind of re-tracing my steps here. I really like the sketch from April 5th, which has a similar angle. ~ 50 minutes

Daily Sketch – May 5th, 2011

Hah I like these two. If I draw them again I will give the lady real legs and find a better hat for the gentleman. ~ 60 minutes

Daily Sketch – April 22nd – May 5th, 2011

FIRST MOLESKINE FULL! Yep this is the last page / last image for the first of what I hope are many more Moleskine sketchbooks to come. As it was the last image in the book, I was already working out of a new sketchpad, and so had to remember to go back and finish this one later. Similar to both the April 12th and April 15th sketches. ~80 minutes

Daily Sketch – May 4th, 2011

Another face page. I’ve kind of been striking out recently with the morning sketching – I need to shake things up. ~ 40 minutes.

Daily Sketch – May 3rd, 2011

So THIS is what I was destined to draw on my 30th birthday? Not my favorite work, but I like the eyes. I would actually like to take a crack at coloring this one. Spooky. ~ 40 minutes

April 15, 2011

Daily Sketch – April 15th, 2011

I liked Tuesday’s (April 12th) sketch enough to try another in that same style. Didn’t turn out as good but I like the bandages and the ridiculous ‘brain replacement’ attachment on the head. I struggled with this one a bit ~ 100 minutes

April 12, 2011

Daily Sketch – April 12th, 2011

I like this one – it has the more theatrical presentation and narrative-based feeling that I’m shooting for. ~ 60 minutes

April 11, 2011

Daily Sketch – April 11th, 2011

I like the composition here. ~30 min
